Not Just Me is a short film which speaks to the difficulty of creating connection through social media, and the relentless need to provide meaningful content in a virtual world. The unwitting egotism of the “Selfie” is explored through exposure of inner conflict. A collaboration between director and performer Julia Wilkins with artists Isaiah Parker (Sound Design) and Yana Biryukova (Video Design) results in a densely layered visual and audio experience.

This project is made possible in part with funding from a Sullivan County Arts & Heritage Grant, funded by the Sullivan County Legislature and administered by the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance.

not. present. /2011/

On top of found footage of various world affairs are superimposed dark silhouettes of people dancing, having a drink, walking, going to galleries – living an everyday life. I wanted to show the tendency among the western community to not get involved. While being aware and keeping track of what is happening in the world, they can afford to not be affected by it in any way, to be not present. These people continue to live their everyday life with the events of global importance serving as a mere background to their existence.
