Yana Biryukova is a video artist and theatre designer based in New York City. Her work lives at the intersection of theatre and film, using video to create immersive storytelling. With a deep interest in poetic abstraction, Yana's collaborations span theater, film and live performance. Her theatrical designs include collaborations with Hartford Stage, Yale Repertory Theatre, Barrington Stage Company, Resident Ensemble Players, Miami New Drama, Milwaukee Rep, Westport Country Playhouse, Red Bull Theater, Bristol Riverside Theatre, American Mime Theatre, Mason Holdings, Yale University, Yale Opera, Yale Cabaret, Irish Repertory Theatre and many more. Associate credits include Harry Potter and The Cursed Child ; Charlie and The Chocolate Factory (Broadway); Cadillac Crew (Yale Repertory Theatre); Candide (Carnegie Hall). In addition to theatre design Yana has edited and designed films and installations, including Palimpsest: Tales Spun from Sea and Memories presented at the Venice Biennale 2022, Promise Land at Yale University, Alphabet City at Yale Art Gallery, Not Just Me at Catskill Art Society, Meraki at Harvestworks among others.
